How
Does it Work?
Step 1 - Initial Visit
If you wish to
go ahead after the initial contact I will arrange a no
obligation visit your home. For this a flat fee of £45
is charged to cover time and travel costs. If you decide to proceed with a
commissioned design this fee is waived.
At the
meeting, which could take a couple of hours, I will talk through in
detail what you want from your garden: how you wish to use it,
what elements you want in it, any ideas you already have, your likes &
dislikes with regard to plants and hard landscape materials etc.
I will agree
the extent of input you want from me and give you an
accurate quotation and timescale for
the work. If you decide to go ahead I will prepare and send you a
written brief, based on our discussions, to make sure I have
fully understood your requirements.
Step 2 - Site Survey
I will then
make an accurate survey of the site, take soil samples and
photographs ready to start developing design ideas. At this visit I
may also go through a 'computer scrap book' with you to get a good
feel for your preferences with regard to different garden styles.
Step 3 -
Master Plan / Planting Scheme
The next stage
is for me to come up with a detailed
design layout for your garden - a master plan.
This will be
drawn to scale and show the different areas and elements within the
design - paths, planting beds, trees, structures etc. Detailed
specifications will be given for the hard landscaping and some general
idea of planting schemes. The plan will include some
visual representations of the garden
or features within it, to give you a better idea of how the plan will
look in reality
Detailed
planting plans showing exact species, numbers, sizes, location can
be quoted for and prepared separately if they were not already agreed
as a part of the brief.
Once complete I will
talk you through the plans so that you fully understand them. You
will be given a coloured, scaled master plan and two black and white copies
for use with landscape contractors.
Who will build the garden?
Step 4 -
Implementation
The garden would need to be built either by yourselves or appointed landscape
contractors. However I can provide support throughout the
build process - from helping you source contractors, preparing construction
drawings to liaising with the appointed contractor during the build. The
level of support you require I would discuss and agree with you when I
present the final plans. The cost would depend on the work required and may
be charged on an hourly or a
fixed price basis. All costs would be agreed up front so as to avoid any
surprises!
Who will supply plants and plant up the
garden?
Step 5 - Planting
I can quote for supply and planting up
the garden once construction is complete. Alternatively you can plant up
the garden yourself using the detailed planting plans.
